Quick Facts about Shopware

Well, what if I told you that Shopware was established in 2000 – 8 years sooner than Magento and 6 than Shopify? While Shopware is older, a market share of only 4.70% can be explained by the fact that the platform was popular mostly in the German market.

As an illustration, we may visit 25,103 live Shopware stores in Germany. That is more than half of the total 40,000 companies that use Shopware.

While the platform office is still headquartered in Schöppingen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, the team keeps expanding its global presence. Consequently, the companies using Shopware are most often located in the next countries: Germany, the United States, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, France, Italy, Belgium, and Denmark.

If you want to start selling online with Shopware, there is a Shopware Community free edition. Start-up businesses, and small to medium companies have taken advantage of the opportunity. Correspondingly, you may see the breakdown of stores on Shopware in different industries:

  • 3.8% offer Home & Garden products.
  • 2.6% offer Apparel products.
  • 2.0% offer Food & Drink products.

To create an easy and fast shopping experience for visitors, Shopware merchants can use over 2,000 plugins available in the official Shopware app store. Besides, among Shopware integrations, you may see Blazing CDN, PayPal, Paymill, SagePay, Checkout com, Google Analytics, and MailChimp services. This all helps Shopware-based businesses deliver the fastest services, offer more payment methods, send marketing emails and newsletters, and gauge the success of e-commerce activities.

Now on to the big brands using Shopware.

Popular companies using Shopware

Let’s begin with a swallow. In Ancient Greece, swallows were bearers of good luck. Luck plays a good role in a business’s success. And at the same time, we can learn how the bird sounds in German.

Schwalbe

Well, meet Schwalbe. The name translates as the swallow.

Schwalbe is a German company that’s been making tires since 1973. I guess all cyclists know it as a high-standard brand in the e-bike segment.

Schwalbe is owned by the family Bohle since its establishment. As the name was taken from a Korean brand that Ralf Bohle (founder) imported to Germany, Schwalbe maintains a production partnership with the Korean tire manufacturer Hung-A. They have factories for tire production in Indonesia and Vietnam.

Schwalbe has subsidiaries in Italy, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and North America. The combination of tires that offer the best performance and distributors in over 40 countries has brought the company huge sales growth. For example, in 2022 the brand Schwalbe reported sales of 335 million euros ($359 million). It was a sales record in the brand’s 50th anniversary year.

To generate good revenue, the company needs to have a strong online presence, presently a Schwalbe Shopware website

And if you’re wondering what the Germans call “liver glue”, here is our next brand for today.

Jägermeister

This is a well-known digestif made with 56 herbs and spices. Wilhelm and Curt Mast from Wolfenbüttel, Germany created the mixture in 1934 and during the 89 years, the recipe has never changed.

Today, together with you, I am studying the German words. Henceforth, we learn what the name Jägermeister means. This is “Master Hunter”. By the way, it is a job title for a high-ranking official in a hunting area. A title had existed for many centuries. The founder Curt was an enthusiastic hunter, and that’s why he called Jägermeister like this.

Nowadays, you can buy Jägermeister in 80 countries. 80% of sales come from outside Germany. For instance, two years ago the brand recorded volume sales of about 1.49 million 9-liter cases in the United States.

This may be true that there’s a series of 383 quality checks of the popular German digestif. I’d like to compare this to building the website. So many checks should be done and many aspects are to be considered. Half of them the Jägermeister company left to the Shopware assistant. An agency in Berlin relaunched Jägermeister online store with Shopware features in 2017.

The next brand from the list of popular companies using Shopware is famous in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

Marc Aurel

Marc Aurel is a German fashion company. Its journey to success began in 1972. Reinhold Richter, an owner of Marc Aurel Textil GmbH, started producing ladies’ trousers. A bit later, by 1979, the company designers presented a complete ladies’ collection.

At the beginning of the two thousandths, the company created a brand concept that called for launching two main collections per season with four themes each. New offers always create a demand. The company has opened its seven boutiques and 25 partner shops in neighboring countries. As follows, there was a need to distribute women’s fashion via online shops and platforms, too. So, nowadays Marc Aurel’s brand is distributed in all European countries as well as on markets in Australia, the Middle East, Asia, and North America.

To manufacture clothes, the company has factories in Asia, Poland, and Turkey. To showcase exclusive fashion products and sell online, Marc Aurel’s company comes with a self-titled website built with Shopware

While Marc Aurel creates captivating fashion for women, another thing can also capture a woman’s heart. This is a wallet. Our next participant is a very famous brand from the popular companies using Shopware.

Mywalit

Mywalit is initially an Italian brand that sells unique, nothing on similar design wallets. Later the brand introduced handbags, coin purses, and accessories.

The company was founded in Lucca, Italy in 2005, but was quick to move into international markets. Interesting is the fact that the first visitors could enjoy shopping in a shop located in the old Roman Amphitheatre right at the heart of the cosmopolitan shopping district of Tuscany.

Nowadays Mywalit has offices in the United States, Australia, Japan, and the Far East. You can buy colorful leather wallets,  in department and designer stores, leather goods, duty-free shops, boutiques, and even museums.

Mywalit went online in the spring of 2018 with the Shopware enterprise plan. Among popular technologies used by the Mywalit company website, you may see Klaviyo

In general, there are 208 live Shopware stores in Italy. Still, I will continue speaking about Swedish companies. The next brand is close to my heart right from the start. Do you remember that all EDIY members love dogs? We told you about that in the Hello post. Read it to know what else we are fond of.

Husse

Today, the Husse brand is well-known in more than 50 countries. About 750 franchisees are operating across the globe.

It all started with the idea of in-home delivery of pet feed. In 1987 in Stockholm the founder Tom Eliasson run a pet food home delivery service. By the time, Tom’s family members noticed the absence of natural and healthy pet foods in the Scandinavian market. This gave rise to producing better-quality pet products under its own brand ‘Husse’ in 1991. Currently, users can purchase Super Premium Quality Dog and Cat food, Pet treatment products, and accessories. The main feature of Husse’s business is still free delivery of the products to the customers.

Not only free home delivery but also totally natural human-grade product ingredients, with flavors or preservatives contribute to the brand’s popularity. And that’s why Husse kept winning prestigious European awards for its premium pet food.

To run a successful e-commerce site, the Husse brand team decided to use Shopware 6 Enterprise edition.

Pets care takes a lot of effort, and hygiene in the home is also important. My next brand for today is a family-run company that provides hygiene with paper-based products.

Sanicare

The Filipino-owned Sanicare company was founded in October 1996 by Renato Sio. In his youth, he worked as a management executive of one of the largest paper mills in the country. His experience and belief that every Filipino should have access to quality hygiene products made the Sanicare brand a leading player in facility hygiene products.

The company uses plant-based materials for its wipes. The clean paper is made from virgin wood pulp, without treatment by chlorine and harmful chemicals. Sanicare also offers paper stems instead of plastic for its earbuds.

The brand’s eco-friendly alternatives are an addition to the company’s desire to protect the planet. Sanicare team members are also known as people who preserve biodiversity in Philippine forests.

I believe that we all need more trees for a healthy planet. I have a deep sense of gratitude Sanicare guys as well as to the team of one Shopify-based store famous for planting trees. If you haven’t read that information, please look into the post.

A Sanicare website is based on the Shopware platform. The company also uses 58 technologies and services for the easy running of its store.

In this article, many learned the meaning of some German words. Hope you liked it. We went through the action of discovering both new words and big brands using Shopware. Let’s see the last one in this section.

The DMAX e-shop is directly linked to the history of the company which makes viewers from 155 countries around the world discover the world in which they live.

DMAX

DMAX is a free men’s lifestyle channel. It is managed by Warner Bros. Discovery – an American mass media and entertainment empire. The channel got its e-commerce platform in Germany. So there was the DMAX Shop.

The shop is the best place if you need gifts for men. Among numerous categories, you may choose apparel, fashion accessories, outdoor equipment, chargers, cables, and toys. You can even buy electronically operated paper airplanes, which makes the DMAX shop funky. Famous brands such as Stanley, Dickies, etc. design products especially for this e-commerce store.

DMAX used Shopware 5 to launch a store. It helped them to customize the product attributes for separate shops in different countries. For instance, the currency and description language on the product page will be configured variously to reach different target groups. That’s a nice feature because DMAX shop customers are international.

The next chapter will be about online shops based on Shopware which are independently owned. They offer bright and highly-functional websites. Now let’s look at 7 indie popular companies using Shopware.

Indie brands

I really like the expression by AJ Lee – “Never trust anyone who doesn’t drink coffee.” The exceptional coffee quality matters, and when traveling I go to new places and experience new coffee.

Coffee Circle

Coffee Circle company was formed in 2010 by Robert Bach and Moritz Waldstein-Wartenberg. It is based in Berlin.

The Coffee Circle coffee business started unusually started. First, they worked only online as a coffee roasting company. It was collaborative entrepreneurship with coffee farmers from South/West Ethiopia, Kenya, Myanmar, and Colombia with a desire to improve the lives of coffee farmers. The company invested 2.5 M EUR for support.

For operating in ecommerce Coffee Circle website chose the Shopware 5 Enterprise Edition. As they said, they were inspired to start working with the platform because it developed in Germany and therefore reacts quickly to legal changes.

While on the subject, you should know that Coffee Circle also opened a retail shop/cafe. And when you visit Berlin, please don’t forget to come to Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße 19, 10178.

Finally I see pretty high scores. Great speed results for mobile page speed in comparison with the mentioned above Shopware brands!

Somehow it reminded me of one more coffee brand with a website based on Magento. Nespresso store for the Indonesian market should have taken Coffee Circle as an example. You can move to the post to learn why.

In all the years so many people are motivated by coffee and chocolate. And while visitors enjoy the atmosphere in Coffee Circle cafe, there is also another trendy spot in Germany’s capital. The Rausch chocolate house was ranked the #1 shopping Berlin destination on TripAdvisor. Here we will talk about it.

Rausch GmbH

The Rausch GmbH is a chocolate manufacturer in Germany. The family-owned business has a long history since 1918. That year Wilhelm Rausch set up the first shop in Berlin. It’s been such a success, that later seven more shops appeared. During the following century, Wilhelm’s three children continued to manage the business.

In the 1920s one of the sones developed the first classic Rausch chocolates in his private confectionery shop. And years later, the family opened their own SchokoLand. It includes a museum and a cafe where happy clients can try chocolate delicacies and watch the process of its creation.

At present, you can purchase Rausch products in a brand showroom in Mitte – Berlin’s “downtown” area. You have an opportunity to choose the sweets that caught your eye on the longest praline counter in the world – at 1,500 square meters.

With the new Rausch website launched in 2016, the Rausch business improved the customer experience by allowing them to get the chocolate assortment from any device in any place. The company used a Shopware 5.1 functionality. As Robert Rausch, CEO of Rausch GmbH said, the platform fully suits the brand vision.

As the follow-up to the series of Shopware sites with appealing designs and an assortment of tasty things, let me dwell on the Rawbite site.

RAWBITE

RAWBITE brand was founded by three Danish friends, Morten, Nikolaj, and Rolf. Just when sitting in the kitchen they came up with an idea to make a tasty product that delivers energy and is easy to bring along.

The RAWBITE snacks are bars that are made out of dried fruits and nuts, gluten, and lactose-free. Feel free to choose from 8 flavors – Apple Cinnamon, Cashew, Peanut, Spicy Lime, Cacao, Vanilla Berries, Protein,  and Coconut. As can be seen, here is one more Shopware store with minimized loading time and high performance on mobile pages. Good job.

The next player of my article has nothing to do with delicacies or beverages. Nevertheless, the brand story is similar to TeaGschwendner. It all started with a hobby – not tea drinking, but racing.

Fanatec

Thomas Jackermeier, who was an active player of early PC games, decided to turn his hobby into his profession. He founded Endor – the mother company of the brand “Fanatec”.

For years they have been known as creators of racing wheels. For instance, the company made the official Sony Playstation 2 wheels and the official wheel for the old Xbox. All products were developed under the brand name Fanatec. Even the Bentley GT3 steering wheel has been developed in collaboration with Fanatec.

Last year, the Fanatec company was celebrating its 25th anniversary. The products of this world-leading brand for dedicated sim racing hardware are engineered in Germany, produced in Asia, and can be purchased in the Fanatec online webshop. It was developed by the Shopware partner Proxation – an e-commerce agency in German-speaking countries.

As long as most companies shown today have headquarters in Germany and neighborhoods, the next website is responsible for promoting Franconian Switzerland. It is translated into German as Fränkische Schweiz. Let us mark that this is an upland in Upper Franconia, Bavaria, Germany. It is one of the oldest German holiday regions between Bamberg, Bayreuth, and Nuremberg and a popular tourist retreat.

Fränkische Schweiz

There is the Franconian Switzerland Tourist office to help people learn more about 35 medieval castles and palaces, the nature park with over 1,000 caves, and various romantic mills located in one of the largest parks in Germany. The visitors have the opportunity to hike, bike, and climb in the territory.

And there’s just a good Shopware-based website with a Franconian Switzerland map here you will be very welcome. Besides maps, at the e-shop, the visitors will find free information material such as brochures with tour suggestions, excursion tips, travel guides, the details about places for refreshments. In the Franconian Switzerland shop, it is possible to also buy souvenirs of the region to take home.

Dubarry is our seventh and last Shopware shop for today. Moreover, it is one of the top stores ordered by store rank in 2022. Also, it has a very interesting origin of the name.

Dubarry

The Dubarry company was named after Louis XV’s mistress, Madame du Barry. You are probably wondering what country footwear has in common with a French courtesan. In fact, nothing. The founder chose the name with the purpose to stand out from the competition, attracting attention, and arousing interest among potential clients.

The Dubarry company was established in 1937. It is well known for its sailing and country footwear and clothing. The headquarters of the Dubarry is at Ballinasloe, County Galway, Ireland. Sailing enthusiasts know the brand for Galway boots with its watertight design. Later, the company also started offering clothing, leather goods, umbrellas, and accessories.

Dubarry has 3 flagship stores located in Ireland and Britain. There are also footwear/clothing shops in the USA and Australia.

In 2019, the company made the decision to re-platform the Dubarry website to Shopware 5. It helped them to grow conversions by 34.7%.
