Faster image loading

Logo images now load more efficiently — each device only downloads the image size it needs, improving page speed. Sections that use a separate mobile image now load a single image instead of two, and your logo is served at the size it's actually displayed, with sharp versions for high-resolution screens.

Local 4.2.0 introduces a built-in events calendar, letting merchants create, list, and sell tickets for events directly in the theme.

Events calendar

Create and showcase events using your Shopify blog posts. Each event gets its own page and can be grouped together on a dedicated events page — ideal for workshops, launches, pop-ups, classes, and more.

• Event pages
  Every event has its own page showing the date, time, and duration, with room for extra details like location or organizer.
• Add to calendar
  Visitors can add any event to Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook, or Yahoo in one click.
• Sell tickets
  Connect an event to a product so customers can buy tickets straight from the event page.
• Events list
  Add a list of events to any page, sorted by date with the soonest first. Turn on "Hide past events" to show only what's upcoming.

New Shopify features

• Product disclosures
  Added support for Shopify's product disclosures, so required safety and regulatory notices — such as California Proposition 65 warnings or choking-hazard notices — appear in a dedicated section on the product page instead of being buried in the description.
• Standard events
  Added support for Shopify's standard customer events, giving you more accurate analytics and tracking across the shopping journey, from product views to add-to-cart and checkout.

• Search by SKU, barcode, and tags
  Predictive search now matches products by SKU, barcode, and tags, helping customers find what they need faster.
• Slideshow fix
  Fixed a bug affecting slideshows with the auto height option enabled.

Fixed an issue where mobile videos were not playing correctly in all scenarios.

Product comparison

• Compare products
  Added comparison functionality to the product grid, letting customers select multiple products and view them side by side to make quicker, more confident purchase decisions.
• Static comparison section
  Added a static product comparison section for showcasing a fixed set of products in a side-by-side layout, ideal for highlighting curated comparisons anywhere on your store.

Video improvements

• Separate mobile videos
  Added the ability to choose a different video for mobile devices across various sections, so you can serve shorter or better-framed content to mobile shoppers.
• Mixed media per device
  Added the option on selected sections to show a video on desktop and an image on mobile, giving you more control over how content adapts across screen sizes.
